What is a veterinary emergency?
Several different situations can be considered emergencies and may require veterinary care as soon as possible.
If any of the following situations or symptoms occur, call Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency & Referral Hospital to have your pet seen by our vets in Halifax.
- Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
- Fractured bones
- Severe lameness
- Seizures/tremors
- Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
- Inability to urinate or pass feces
- Pain associated with urinating or passing feces
- Persistent vomiting and diarrhea

At our animal hospital in Halifax, we believe that communication is vital. Staying true to this, we will update your primary veterinarian as needed throughout your pet's care.
We will share any reports and images with your vet to help with continued care after your dog or cat has been discharged. This is to ensure that their care continues without delays.
